Honey Walrond believes in the transformative power of education to heal, uplift, and affirm the brilliance of every child. Before serving as a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Berkeley, she earned a Ph.D. in English Education from Columbia University, with a secondary concentration in Education Policy. Her research sits at the intersection of literacy, Black teachers, Black leaders, and K-12 education policy, examining how Black educators cultivate literacy excellence and joy for Black students.
Honey is a certified Professional School District Leader and secondary English Language Arts teacher with experience in public and charter schools throughout New York City, where she focused on school improvement and creating equitable, supportive learning environments.
Grounded in the belief that Black teachers and leaders are champions who recognize, promote, and celebrate the achievements of Black students, Honey's work illuminates how Black educators foster success and create spaces where Black students can thrive.
