National Board Certification Research Project

This research seeks to understand the effects of the National Board Certification (NBC) process on multiple stakeholders within a school district.

Research Questions:

  1. How do teachers pursuing National Board Certification change their classroom practice?

  2. How do teachers pursuing National Board Certification change a school's culture?

  3. How do principals learn to support teachers who are pursuing National Board Certification?

  4. To what degree do principals shift their leadership practice to support teachers who are pursuing National Board Certification?

  5. How do facilitators shift their own classroom practices based on what they learn from supporting other teachers in the Certification process?

This study will provide insights into the effects of pursuing NBC on teachers' professional learning and development across school-based roles. It will also shed light on how seeking NBC within communities of practice influences school environments.
