California Black Studies Curriculum Research Project
This qualitative study investigates the California Black Studies Curriculum (CABSC) project. This study intends to learn how participation in the CABSC project shaped the skills, practices, and mindsets of participants.
Research Questions:
-
What dispositions around race and teaching and learning do participants acquire as a result of their involvement in the CABSC Program? How do these dispositions evolve over time?
-
To what degree does participating in the CABSC professional learning program support participants’ perceptions of their own and students’ learning?
-
How, if at all, do Fellows integrate the Black Historical Consciousness Framework into their curriculum?
- What are the elements of professional development that can support teachers with the dispositions, knowledge, and skills to teach CABSC?
- What are the enabling and constraining policies that can influence the implementation of CABSC? What policy changes are necessary to implement the inclusion of Black Studies in educational settings?
The findings from this study will illuminate the impact of developing curricula like the CABSC on teachers and will offer valuable insights that can inform the development of future reparations curricula.
