Drawing on scholarship generated from the Handbook of Research on Teachers of Color and Indigenous Teachers(link is external), the National Center for Research on Educator Diversity NCRED(link is external), has been organzing the Handbook State Policy Convening Series(link is external) across five ideoloigically diverse states (Texas, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and North Dakota) to advance policy and practice efforts related to educator diversity. The first convening was held in Texas(link is external) and the most recent in California on February 24, 2024 at the UC Berkeley School of Education.
The NCRED worked in partnership with educational advocacy groups and the California Department of Education(link is external) to organize the CA convening. Together with parents, youth, educators, policy partners, and researchers, we engaged in discussions about how the Handbook(link is external)’s research can inform ongoing policy and practice efforts in the state. Additional collaborators included UC Berkeley’s Principal Leadership Institute(link is external), the Education Trust, Teach Plus, Latinos for Education, Hunt Institute, CCSSO, and the National Parents Union.
