Travis Bristol attends Board of Directors meeting for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

Travis Bristol opened Day 2 of the Board of Directors Meeting for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. During the reception, they honored out-going Board member Dr. Mae Jemison (the first woman of color to go to space). In Bristol’s remarks he thanked Dr. Jemison for personifying what it means to “walk with kings and queens and not lose the common touch.” And, for ALL of the ways she continues to support. Also honored: the late Dr. Barbara Bowman with the James Kelly Award. Dr. Bowman was one of the founders of the Erikson Institute and served on the Board. She transitioned on Nov. 4th, but knew that she received it and planned to receive it before her passing. Accepting the award on her mother’s behalf was Valerie Jarrett. Ms. Jarrett served as President Barack Obama ‘s senior advisor (the longest senior advisor to a US president) and is the CEO of the Obama Foundation. Incredibly moving to hear Ms. Jarrett talk about what it meant to be raised by a mother who gave her professional life to ensuring our youngest learners had access to the well-trained.
