Meet Teacher Jazmine Njissang (she/her), a 7th and 8th Grade Math teacher and second-year NBRC Candidate Support Program candidate, pursuing National Board Certification! She began her career as an after-school program tutor and worked her way to serve on the Instructional Lead team, facilitating professional development at the district level. She has participated in the Berkeley Teacher Education Program (BTEP) as a cooperating teacher for many years. When she is not in the classroom, she plays center field on two co-ed softball teams in the Bay Area. Currently, Jazmine is one of the three teachers elected for Oakland Unified School District’s Teacher of the Year 2024-2025 and coaches teachers in their induction year. Jazmine is the definition of perseverance, having to take her CSET five times and EdTPA twice and almost being disqualified for her position, but with the support of her site and HR personnel, she was able to pass those barriers.
