⭐ Reflections on Belonging While in Pursuit of Accomplished Teaching ⭐
What does it mean to truly belong in the field of education? Yewande Lewis-Fokum, Visiting Scholar at the Center for Research on Expanding Educational Opportunity (CREEO)at UC Berkeley’s School of Education, explores this question in her latest blog, connecting personal and professional identity with the pursuit of National Board Certification.
At CREEO, we proudly run the National Board Resource Center (NBRC), supporting educators through National Board Certification—the most respected professional certification available in education. This voluntary process, led by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, allows teachers to document their attainment of high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. It is designed to develop, retain, and recognize outstanding educators while fostering continuous improvement in schools nationwide.
Yewande’s reflections remind us that accomplished teaching is more than expertise—it’s about creating spaces of belonging for both educators and students.
